The importance of water separation for THK linear guides

The importance of THK linear guides in water separation. When using THK linear guides, they often come into direct contact with water, such as in machining centers and lathes. During use, water often splashes onto the THK linear guides. If the water separation performance of the THK guide lubricant is not good, it will be directly decomposed by water, and the oil will drip into the cutting fluid, thus seriously polluting the cutting fluid. Therefore, the water separation performance of the THK linear guide is very important. Many precision machine tools are more convenient to use, so the linear THK guide and the hydraulic system will use the same oil. In fact, the editor suggests that it is best to use a dual-purpose oil for hydraulic actuators. If hydraulic oil is used alone, it will result in poor wear resistance, leading to serious wear of the linear guide or being directly washed away by water. However, if only THK guide lubricant is used, it may cause excessive oil sludge in the hydraulic system, resulting in pressure failure to meet the requirements. Most machinery prefers to use a centralized lubrication method to lubricate THK guides. In fact, THK guide oil and extreme pressure grease are directly installed in the same transparent container, and the machine will automatically replenish it wherever it is. For this oil, the grease used in THK linear guides is unrecoverable in terms of wear, and many guides are basically directly exposed to the outside and cannot be recovered or recycled. Micromotion wear is the appearance of pitting on the same channel. The spacing between them is mainly based on the entire diameter of the steel ball, mainly due to the lack of oil film, and during shorter forming and operation, vibration will accelerate and eventually be oxidized.

The lifespan of a linear guide is defined as the total running distance until surface peeling occurs on the raceway surface and steel balls due to material fatigue. Under the same working conditions, a batch of guide components with the same structure and size are run separately. Before 90% of the guide components show fatigue damage, the sum of the distances the slider moves relative to the guide or the number of working hours at a certain speed. The lifespan of linear guides has a large degree of dispersion. Even products from the same batch, used under the same motion state, will have different lifespans. Therefore, when selecting linear guides, we can estimate their lifespan based on the basic dynamic rated load and working load. (1) Hardness coefficient (fh) In actual guide systems, in order to fully utilize the rolling linear guide, the hardness of the raceway surface in contact with the steel balls should be between HRC58~64. If the hardness of the raceway surface is low, the rated dynamic load will decrease, and the rated lifespan of the guide will decrease. Therefore, the rated dynamic load and rated static load of the guide should be multiplied by the hardness coefficient fH. The following figure shows the hardness coefficient fH corresponding to different raceway surface hardnesses. (2) Temperature coefficient (ft) When the temperature of the guide system exceeds 100℃, compared with use at normal temperature, the rated dynamic load decreases, and the rated lifespan is shortened. Therefore, the rated dynamic load and rated static load of the guide should be multiplied by the temperature coefficient fT. The following figure shows the temperature coefficient fT corresponding to different temperatures. (3) Load coefficient (fw) When calculating the rated lifespan, the influence of external loads and usage conditions should also be considered, including changes in the weight of the object and inertial forces caused by the speed of movement. For this reason, a load coefficient fW is introduced. The value of fW varies under different usage conditions.
