How should linear guides be maintained?

Common linear guide brands include THK, HTPM, HIWIN, and AirTAC. While there are various brands, both domestic and imported, the maintenance methods are quite similar. We can discuss this from the following points.
1. Cleaning
• During use, THK linear guides accumulate dust, oil stains, and other impurities, which can affect the smooth movement of the slider and accelerate guide wear.
• Regular cleaning is the first step in maintenance. Tools such as soft cloths, brushes, and compressed air can be used. Wipe the HIWIN linear guide surface with a soft cloth to remove dirt, use a brush to clean the slider and surrounding gaps, and then use compressed air to blow away residual dust and particles.
2. Lubrication
• Lubrication reduces friction, minimizes wear, and extends the service life of AirTAC linear guides.
• Choose the appropriate lubricating oil or grease, depending on the brand, linear guide model, operating environment, and load conditions.
• Lubrication is divided into regular lubrication and on-demand lubrication. Regular lubrication involves adding lubricant at predetermined intervals; on-demand lubrication is performed immediately when lubrication is insufficient or movement is not smooth.
3. Inspection and Adjustment
• Regularly check the guide condition, including the tightness of the guide slider, the parallelism of the linear guide, and wear and tear. Under high load or high-speed operation, linear guide wear may accelerate, requiring careful inspection.
• If the guide slider is loose or the guide is not parallel, adjust it immediately. Tighten the guide slider by adjusting the screws, ensuring that the appropriate clearance is maintained between the guide slider and the linear guide to ensure smooth movement.
4. Controlling the Working Environment
• Humid or corrosive gas environments will accelerate linear guide corrosion, and high temperatures may cause the lubricant to degrade.
• Equipment should be located in a dry, well-ventilated area, and protective measures should be taken, such as using dust covers or anti-corrosion coatings.
5. Operational Standards
• Operators should follow operating procedures to avoid overloading or excessive impact forces, which can cause irreversible damage to the linear guide slider.
6. Establishing Maintenance Records
• The maintenance and upkeep of HTPM linear guides should be systematic. Establish maintenance records, including cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and feedback on abnormal situations.
Regular maintenance of THK linear guides can effectively improve performance, reduce failure rates, save repair costs, and increase production efficiency!
