Main structural features
Steel balls roll along four rows of precisely ground rolling surfaces on the LM rail and LM slide; the steel ball rows are made to circulate by a ball retainer and end cover plate assembled on the LM slide.
To ensure that the four directions of action (radial, anti-radial, and lateral) on the LM slide all have the same rated load, each steel ball row is designed with a contact angle of 45°. Therefore, it can be used in any posture. The even pre-load maintains a low coefficient of friction while strengthening the rigidity in four directions. Simultaneously, due to the low cross-sectional height and the high rigidity design of the LM slide, stable, high-precision linear motion is achieved.
Equal load in four directions
To ensure that the four directions of action (radial, anti-radial, and lateral) on the LM slide all have the same rated load, the steel balls are designed with a contact angle of 45°. Therefore, it can be used in any posture and has wide applications.
Automatic self-aligning capability
Due to THK's unique automatic adjustment capability of the circular arc groove's front combination (DF combination), high-precision and smooth linear motion is obtained even when pre-load is applied, absorbing installation errors.

The dimensions of SHS are designed based on the HSR type all-steel ball LM rolling guide rail, which was developed by THK, a pioneer in linear motion systems, and has in fact become a world standard.
