Precautions for using ball screws

Usage
1. When handling products weighing 20kg or more, please use two or more people or a handling device. Otherwise, scratches or damage may occur.
2. Do not disassemble the parts. This may cause functional damage.
3. When the ball screw is placed at an angle, the screw shaft and nut may fall due to their own weight. Please pay attention to this.
4. Be careful not to drop or strike the ball screw. Otherwise, scratches or damage may occur. In addition, even if there is no visible damage to the appearance after impact, it may cause functional damage.
5. During assembly, do not remove the ball screw nut from the ball screw shaft.
6. When contacting the product, please use protective equipment such as protective gloves and safety shoes as needed to ensure safety.
Usage Precautions
1. Please prevent the entry of foreign objects such as chips and coolant. Otherwise, damage may occur.
2. When used in an environment where chips, coolant, corrosive solvents, water, etc., may enter the product, please use a bellows cover or protective cover to prevent them from entering the product.
3. Avoid using in conditions exceeding 80℃. Except for heat-resistant products, exceeding this temperature may cause deformation or damage to resin and rubber parts.
4. If chips or other foreign objects are attached, please clean them and reapply lubricant.
5. During micro-vibration, it is difficult to form an oil film between the contact surfaces of the rolling surface and the rolling element, which may cause micro-motion wear. Please use a lubricant with excellent micro-motion wear resistance.
It is also recommended to regularly rotate the nut by about one turn to form an oil film between the rolling surface and the rolling element.
6. Do not forcefully hammer positioning parts (pins, keys, etc.) into the product. This may cause indentations on the rolling surface and lead to functional damage.
7. If the support part of the screw shaft and the nut are eccentric or offset, the service life will be extremely shortened. Please pay attention to the installation components and installation accuracy.
8. If any rolling element falls out of the ball screw nut, do not continue to use this product and contact THK.
9. When used for the vertical axis, please take corresponding measures, such as adding a safety mechanism to prevent falling. Otherwise, the ball screw nut may fall due to its own weight.
10. Do not exceed the allowable rotational speed during use. Otherwise, it may cause damage to parts and accidents. Please control the rotational speed within the range specified by our company.
11. Do not allow the ball screw to over-travel. This may cause steel balls to fall, damage to circulating parts, indentations on the steel ball rolling surface, and malfunction. In addition, if used in the above state, it may cause early wear and damage to circulating parts.
12. When using a ball screw, please use it with guiding parts such as LM guide rails and ball splines. Otherwise, damage may occur.
13. If the rigidity and accuracy of the mounting components are insufficient, the bearing load will be concentrated locally, resulting in a significant reduction in bearing performance. At the same time, please fully consider the rigidity and accuracy of the bearing seat and base, and the strength of the fixing bolts.
Lubrication
1. Please carefully wipe off the rust preventive oil and apply lubricant before use.
2. Avoid mixing different lubricants. Even greases with the same thickener may have adverse effects on each other due to differences in additives.
3. When used in special environments such as places with frequent vibrations, clean rooms, vacuum, low temperature, or high temperature, please use grease that meets the specifications and environment.
4. When lubricating products without oilers and lubrication holes, apply the lubricant directly to the rolling surface, and run it several times per stroke length to allow the grease to enter the product.
5. The consistency of the grease changes with temperature. The torque of the ball screw also changes with consistency. Please note.
6. After greasing, the stirring resistance of the grease may cause an increase in the rotational torque of the ball screw. Be sure to run-in the grease thoroughly before operating the machinery.
7. After greasing, excess grease may splash around. Please wipe it off as needed.
8. The properties of the grease deteriorate and the lubricating performance decreases with the passage of time, so it is necessary to inspect and replenish the grease according to the frequency of use.
9. The greasing interval varies depending on the operating conditions and environment. Please grease every 100 km (3-6 months) as a guideline. Please determine the final greasing interval and amount based on the actual equipment.
10. The installation method and the lubrication of the nut may cause poor lubrication due to poor oil circulation. Please fully consider this during design.
11. When using a ball screw, good lubrication must be provided. If used directly without lubrication, it may accelerate the wear of the rolling parts, thus shortening its service life.
The standard value for replenishing lubricating oil is shown in Table 1 (B15-108).
Storage
When storing ball screws, please store them horizontally indoors in THK's original packaging to avoid high temperatures, low temperatures, and high humidity. The lubricant inside products stored for a long time may deteriorate over time. Please add lubricant again before use.
Disposal
Please dispose of the product properly as industrial waste.
