Common types of guide rails mainly include the following:
Sliding guide rail
• This is the most basic type of guide rail. It achieves motion guidance through sliding contact between the slider and the guide rail surface. For example, ordinary drawer slides, where the slider and the guide rail directly contact and slide relative to each other. They are simple in structure, low in cost, and have good load-bearing capacity, but the coefficient of friction is relatively large, and the motion accuracy is relatively low. They are widely used in equipment with low precision requirements, such as simple tool cabinet drawers.
Rolling guide rail
• It uses ball bearings or rollers rolling between the guide rail and the slider to reduce friction. The ball guide rail has small contact points between the ball bearings and the guide rail and slider, allowing for flexible movement and high precision. It is often used in machine tools and automation equipment where high positioning accuracy is required, such as the worktable movement guide rail of a CNC milling machine, which enables high-precision processing. Roller guide rails have stronger load-bearing capacity and are suitable for occasions with heavier loads, such as heavy machinery processing equipment.
Hydrostatic guide rail
• There is a layer of hydrostatic oil film on the working surface of the guide rail, allowing the slider to float on the oil film, achieving completely liquid friction. It has an extremely small coefficient of friction, high precision, and good rigidity. It is mainly used in high-precision grinding machines and other equipment with extremely high processing precision requirements. For example, optical lens grinding machines use hydrostatic guide rails to effectively reduce vibration and friction, ensuring high-precision processing of the lenses.
