A slider's false rail is an attachment for linear guides, typically made of plastic or metal. It is matched to the size of the slider. The image below shows two types of false rails; the black one is commonly used with THK linear guide sliders, and the green one is used with HIWIN linear guide sliders. The colors match the brands' own usage.

So what is the purpose of a false rail? Let's take a look.

Convenient Installation: When installing the slider onto the guide rail, the false rail acts as a guide, preventing the slider from deviating from the track during installation, ensuring accuracy and smooth progress. As shown in the image below, when installing the slider, don't remove the false rail; instead, push the slider along the guide rail, and the false rail will gradually slide out. This guides the installation and also provides protection.

Protecting the Balls: The false rail prevents the balls from falling out or being damaged due to vibrations or collisions during transport or storage, thus protecting their integrity and performance.

It was visually apparent that the linear guide rail was damaged. When the equipment on the guide rail was lifted with a crowbar and the slider was removed, it was found to be damaged. Due to severe rusting at the mounting points of the slider and rail, it was difficult to remove the slider when disassembling it, which may have caused the damage to the linear guide rail. When we tried moving it again after replacing it with a new slider, the movement was still very poor. It is estimated that simply replacing the slider would not only cause it to be damaged again, but may also damage the rail and rack.
